Truck Drivers Leg Partially Amputated After Runaway Trailer Incident
Truck drivers’ aren’t only at risk when they’re in the cab, they need to be cautious even when the journey is over or before it even begins, as an incident at the Port Kembla coal terminal south of Sydney recently proved.
A truck driver had his leg partially amputated after dropping off a load of coal at the location. The man was hosing down his semi-trailer at the time.
The 40 something year old driver noticed his truck roll forward so he rushed to the front to attempt to climb back into the cabin to stop it. The driver was hit by the truck and became trapped between it and the wash bay.
It took emergency services more than an hour to free the man and attend to arterial bleeding to his leg. The driver was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition.
