Trial to Ease Congestion on Sydney’s Roads

A trial underway in Sydney is aimed at reducing congestion, giving trucks more time to get through green traffic lights.

NSW Roads Minister Melinda Pavey recently announced the trial, which will involve wireless technology installed on trucks and about 100 intersections on crucial freight routes which will allow the traffic signals and trucks to communicate with each other, giving trucks priority at traffic lights.

Given that trucks take longer to start up and take off, this will speed things up, reducing congestion and improving safety.

The trial will run for 3 months and if successful, the government may extend the  technology to buses and emergency vehicles.
