SARTA Confronts Toll and ALC on Safety

South Australian Road Transport Association (SARTA) through its director Steve Shearer have criticised a number of Toll and Australian Logistics Council (ALC) safety-related statements and submissions.

The ALC’s recent pronouncements to the NSW Parliamentary “Staysafe” committee inquiry on truck technology, where compulsory telematics and operator licensing were advocated, prompted condemnation from the SARTA director.

Mr Shearer says the ALC’s membership isn’t representative of trucking and most of their operators are really large logistics businesses who run some of their own trucks. He said most of these businesses “palmed their trucking off under unreasonable contracts and questionable operational requirements imposed on real trucking businesses”
