NSW Launches Smart Truck Scheme
The NSW Government recently announced a new plan to make the state’s roads safer.
The plan will effectively remove up to 1,000 truck trips from local roads each week by ‘encouraging smarter, safer and cleaner ” trucks.
The Safety, Productivity & Environment Construction Transport Scheme (SPECTS) set up by the state government is aimed at providing better productivity by trucks carrying up to 20 per cent more in return for meeting increased safety and environmental standards.
The Minister for Roads, Duncan Gay said recently that the government’s infrastructure boost was creating jobs and business growth.
He said trucks would look the same but be more productive. Ultimately there will be fewer trucks on the road but they will be safer and more productive, doing the same job but emitting less and having less breakdowns.
