NHVR Launches Probe After Truck Fires
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has launched a probe into the spate of truck fires that have occurred recently.
A number of fires emanating in the engine bay of prime movers have happened over the past year, raising concerns with the NHVR.
One of the incidents involved a semi-trailer fire on the Princess Highway near Wollongong in January.
There were a number of other incidents as well where fires occurred that posed a threat to heavy vehicle drivers, operators and other motorists. These incidents also cause significant delays on key freight routes.
As part of their investigation, the regulator held discussions with operators, vehicle manufacturers and component manufacturers about the current causes of truck fires.
The NHVR is also consulting with police and state agencies to identify common causes of the fires.
