Mother and Child Killed in Truck Crash –Driver Charged
A mother and her 12 year old son were killed in a collision with a truck whilst on their way home from dinner.
The truck driver involved was allegedly on drugs when the crash occurred and has since been charged.
The driver was charged with dangerous driving causing death, culpable driving and reckless conduct among other offences.
Police also charged him with exceeding the prescribed concentration of drugs while driving.
The crash claimed the lives of the 37 year old mother and her 12 year old son and left her husband in an induced coma. The family’s 2 other sons and 8 month old and 2 year old were taken to Royal Children’s Hospital with critical injuries. Their eldest son, a 14 year old was not with the family the night of the crash.
Police believed the truck driver was driving on the wrong side of the road during his first shift for the company.
