Calls for Autonomous Braking Technology for Trucks to Prevent Terror Attacks
The Australasian College of Road Safety has called on the government to mandate autonomous braking technology on all new vehicles including trucks, to reduce the road death toll and prevent terror attacks using trucks like we’ve seen in Nice and Berlin.
In December last year a truck hit into a Berlin Christmas market and killed 12 people and in Nice another attack with a truck claimed 86 lives.
In addition to addressing the terrorist threats, it would also assist in reducing the 45,000 hospitalisations and 1300 fatalities that occur due to road crashes.
