Autonomous Trucks Collide in Pilbara Mine

A recent collision between 2 autonomous trucks at the Jimblebar iron ore mine in the Pilbara has been blamed on wet weather.

BHP said the wet weather which included significant rainfall had deteriorated road surface and caused a vehicle to slip into another vehicle.

The incident occurred in March and operations resumed hours after the incident. No one was injured.

A spokesperson for BHP said the vehicles were traveling at around 14km/hour and 27 km/hour at the time of the incident.

BHP reported a reduction of more than 80 per cent in significant events year on year since the integration of automation and other technologies.

This incident was the second collision between autonomous trucks in the Pilbara in a 2 month period.
