Following the incident involving a stolen truck that crashed into a building in the Hunter Valley, Ben Maguire of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) is warning all truck drivers of the importance of securing their vehicles and loads.

The incident which shocked the community has sparked warnings about the devastating impact of unsecured trucks.

Mr Maguire reminded drivers that trucks and heavy vehicles are easy to access and that makes them an easy target.

Sadly since 2014, around 1200 trucks have been stolen annually from the 500,000 national fleet.

Mr Maguire suggests implementing simple measures to make security a part of our daily routines such as being aware of your surroundings at all times and doing proper checks on drivers when hiring them, including ensuring they have genuine documents.

Truck drivers should also have a security plan in place, knowing what to do if something goes wrong.  See more at https://www.bigrigs.com.au/news/call-truckies-stay-safe-after-singleton-incident/3234910/
