Heavy Vehicle Operators Trial New NHVR Portal for Access Permits
The new Customer Portal for access permits is being rolled out by The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, with the regulator claiming to have hundreds of heavy vehicle operators already trialling the new system.
The portal is called AccessCONNECT and according to the executive director David Carlisle, the system is already proving successful with at least 1000 businesses expressing interest and hundreds already on-line sending through their permit requests.
In a post on OwnerDriver.com.au Carlisle explained,
“We now have over 300 customers on-line submitting permit requests and already the system is handling almost 15 per cent of the total NHVR applications,”

Mr Carlisle says that more than 1,000 businesses have requested to be involved in the early release, in fact the NHVR is looking to bring on additional customers in July ahead of a full rollout of the more efficient system later this year.
Some of the well known transport companies that have begun using the new Customer Portal include Russell Transport and McCulloch Bulk Haulage.
The new Customer Portal is expected to provide national consistency for permit applications and a more transparent processing system. It will hopefully also reduce time and effort for operators.
In the past 12 months almost 20,000 applications were lodged and the new portal claims to see the continuance of a growing number of permit applications.
The portal was rolled out in stages, which Carlisle said would allow the regulator to obtain valuable feedback and ensure they were ready for the increased volumes of applications likely through the service.
Mr Carlisle went on to state,
“We’re reviewing the feedback daily and making adjustments to ensure the Portal works well,”
“This has been the outcome of several months of effort and we are excited to see the first part of the improved online permit solution being used rolled out to industry.”

The post goes on to explain that the new portal works on a select and click interface for various vehicle configurations. An added benefit is that applicants can view the progress of their application.
Naturally handwritten, faxed and emailed permit applications will gradually be phased out as the new AccessCONNECT Customer Portal is eased in.
