A tanker crash in Inglewoord, near the central Vic city of Bendigo caused massive inconvenience for a number of residents who had to be evacuated from their homes as a result.

Families were forced to invacuate after a fuel tanker carrying 50,000 litres of flammable liquid lost control as it exited the Calder Highway recently. The tanker rolled and came to rest just 20 metres from a home.

The driver of the tanker sustained minor injuries and an emergency warning was issued for the immediate area at 10pm. Around 30 residents were urged to evacuate their homes until emergency fire crews deemed it safe to return.

Around 600 homes had no power after the tanker took out an electricity pole. Power had to remain off for fears that the vapour emitting from the tanker would ignite.
