Electronic work diaries to be voluntary: confirmed
The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) has welcomed the announcement by Queensland Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport, Jackie Trad, that Electronic Work Diary use will be on a voluntary basis only.
Queensland Paves the way for Trucking to use Electronic Work Diaries
Moves to introduce electronic work diaries (EWD) throughout most of Australia have cleared the first stage, with Queensland’s parliament passing legislation to permit the use of the devices.
Organised by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, the training program saw heavy vehicle auditors sharpen their skills and processes to strengthen the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme and improve the safety and credibility of the industry.
Owner-Driver the First to gain Certification for new Fatigue Management Template
An owner-driver in rural Queensland has become the first person to begin using a flexible fatigue management module designed to help livestock transporters.
Work diary Exemption for Truck Drivers extended to Victoria
Truck drivers in Victoria will soon be exempted from filling out a work diary when transporting livestock over short distances, similar to what is in place for drivers in other jurisdictions.

Linfox Faces Renewed Driver Pursuit on Injury Claim
A former Linfox tanker driver who was physically assaulted while on the job has been given the approval to pursue a compensation claim against the company. The Federal Court of Australia granted Kym O’Loughlin’s appeal against the Administrative Appeals Tribunal’s (AAT) ruling that denied him compensation in 2014.
New Twist in Blenners Transport Legal Fight with TMR
Queensland trucking firm Blenners Transport and its owner are due to face court to answer allegations of breaching fatigue management law. The Department of Transport and Main Roads’ (TMR) case against the company and owner Les Blennerhassett is scheduled to be heard in Dalby, but a date for the hearing has not been set.

Minimum pay rates for owner-drivers will price them out of the market and jeopardise their survival, according to industry group NatRoad.

Does your organisation have a Risk Management Procedure?
The Risk Management Procedure sets out the processes and requirements of the Risk Management Framework, key responsibilities, and supporting records, policies and procedures.
The Risk Management Framework can also be called a Risk Management System, Risk Management Process or Risk Assessment Framework. Regardless of the name of the document, it will contain a set of steps that the organisation will use to identify, assess, control and monitor risks.
The Risk Management Framework is a standard set of processes and requirements adopted throughout the organisation. The framework can be used in any function or area of an organisation – from driver fatigue to intellectual property to customer service. It consists of the following stages:
- Establish the context
- Identify risks
- Assess risks
- Treat risks
- Monitor & review
- Communicate & consult
