BITRE Statistics Show Heavy Rigid Fatal Crashes Declining
According to BITRE statistics, fatal crashes involving heavy rigid trucks have declined over the past year, after previously almost overtaking articulated trucks in fatal crash numbers.
The Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) heavy vehicle fatal crash statistics show a parallel decline from 2017 December quarter. Heavy rigid truck crashes declined for the first time since 2010.
The data shows that fatal crashes involving heavy rigid trucks declined by 26.1 per cent as compared to the same time the previous year, decreasing from 88 to 65 crashes.
