New South Wales Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Chief Warns of Speed Limiter Risks
New South Wales Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Chief Inspector Philip Brooks is the latest to speak out about the risks involved with speed limiter tampering, as he highlighted the harm that can be done to businesses and individuals when caught.
He said the problem was back and as he described it “bolder than ever”, coming after a semi-trailer was detected traveling at 125km/hour on the Barrie Highway near Emmdale last month.
The driver admitted to police that he had tampered with the speed limiter by placing small wedges in the pulse wheel.
The driver removed the wedges and they were seized by police. The police also issued the driver with a speed offence, speed limiter non-compliance and a log book offence.
The chief questioned how routine checks and balances had missed the tampering, especially since we live in an era of technology which could easily detect these issues.
